2011 SUMMER CAMPS/CLINICS

Registration for Summer 2011 Camps/Clinics will begin Monday, April 4, 2011. Registrations will be processed on a first come, space available basis for City Residents. Registrations for City Residents will be on-going. Confirmations will be sent out within two weeks of handing in a complete registration form. Please note that only complete registration forms will be processed and camp slots will not be held for incomplete forms. In the case that a camp is closed, complete registration forms will continue to be processed and a refund will be issued for the closed camps (this could take up 4-6 weeks to receive). Please review our refund policy below:

REFUND POLICY
All refund requests must be submitted in writing to 412 Spencer Street, Syracuse, NY, 13204, Attn: REFUND REQUEST
∙ Full refunds will be processed if requested in writing at least seven (7) business days in advance of the class.
∙ If a refund request is received less than 7 days in advance of the class, you will receive a 50% refund.
∙ No refunds will be given less than one full business day prior to the class starting date. (If the class begins on Monday, the refund request must be received by the Thursday prior.)
∙ All refunds will be paid by the City of Syracuse via check made payable to the name on the original registration form, and could take up to 4-6 weeks to receive.
∙ Prorated refunds may be given after a program has begun if written medical verification (from your primary physician) is received for injury or illness. A prorated refund will be based on the number of days left in the class upon receipt of your medical verification in our office. If we receive the written medical verification after the end of the class, no refund will be given.

Non-City Resident's requests will be processed on a first come, space available basis beginning on Monday, May 23, 2011.

Camp information will also be available in our 2011 Summer Activity Guide due out around April 20, 2011. They will be delivered to all City Schools, City Hall, Libraries and Community Centers. Please note that we can not control when the schools and libraries distribute the brochures.

Outdoor Adventure Programs

CAMP TRANSPORTATION
The city will provide free, supervised bus transportation to all full-day camps from the pick-up sites. Each bus run and return trip includes the 3 pick-up stops and all of the full day camp sites in operation that week. Please note that some weeks have more camps than others, so drop-off times in the afternoon are approximate. We ask that you have camp participants at the site 10 minutes before scheduled pick-up time, and we ask the same for those picking up the children in the afternoon. Your child will be issued a bus pass, and, must be worn everyday to board the camp buses. You will receive the pass in the mail with your camp confirmation (Approx. 2 weeks after registering ). You must indicate on the form which bus stop your child will utilize during camp week.

BASKETBALL CAMP Only a few spots left
Open to boys and girls...This long running camp will include daily drills designed to improve a player's skills in the critical aspects of the game: passing, dribbling, shooting, rebounding, and defending. The camp may also feature local basketball greats as guest speakers.

JR. ACTION BASKETBALL LEAGUE - FULL
Open to boys, ages 13-15, this league provides an opportunity for local youth to play with and compete against some of the best 13-15 year olds in Central New York. Meet new people while building your skills this summer. All registered participants will be drafted to one of 10 teams, led by experienced coaches. Teams play one game per week for 7 weeks. Registration fee includes games, officials, and t-shirt. Competitive League!

To Register: Pre-register by completing registration form and returning, with payment, to the Parks Department. Or, register in person on June 2nd at the Clinic/Eval (see below), as space allows. Limit: 100 youth.
FEE: $20/ city resident; $40/non-city resident
Evaluation night: June 2nd, 6pm. McChesney. Join our coaches for drills and games. ACTION teams will be created following the Eval nights. Register on-site, as space allows.

ROBOTICS CAMP- FULL
In collaboration with Syracuse University's Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, students will build, program, and test a variety of Lego Mindstorms NXT robots, and explore building structures, working with gears, and computer programming in NXT-G. Whether students are brand new to programming and robotics or aspiring to be an engineer, they will expand their knowledge while having fun...Don't miss this camp!

GOLF CLINIC - FULL
The City of Syracuse will present it’s Annual Junior Golf Academy run by the Central New York Professional Golf Association. Participants will learn many aspects of the game, including etiquette, grip and swing techniques. The Program includes breakfast and lunch. All participants must reside in the City of Syracuse and there is a non-refundable $25 fee.

SUNY ESF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE CAMP- Video
Join SUNY ESF Science Corps Students and faculty as we go on a week long exploration of our natural urban eco-system. A curriculum of inquiry based learning activities and games will help children to explore, appreciate and learn about many different plants and animals right in their backyard. Field trips may be scheduled during camp hours.

Fill your summer days with our exciting Multi-Sport opportunities. The staff, led by our experts in backyard sports, will organize, educate and supervise soccer, kickball, dodge ball, relay races and much more. This week of summer will give each participant the ability to learn new activities, make friends and simply have fun playing throughout the days.

Ever try snorkeling on the clean waters of Skaneateles Lake or, take on raging rapids? In the Outdoor Adventure Programs, Outdoor Adventurers will join experienced guides for these activities and much more!Plus, participants will learn basic outdoor recreation skills, and become educated on nature preservation. 1/2 DAY TENNIS CAMP
Now offered in city neighborhoods, participants will benefit from the instruction of USTA professionals while learning how to properly serve and execute forehand and backhand shots. Instructors will also teach agility and footwork patterns necessary to cover the court. Please note that this a 1/2 day camp -- lunch and transportation will not be provided.
