OFFICE OF GRAPHICS
The Office of Graphics helps to upgrade and maintain park signage, produce signage for events, and produce graphics for brochures and camp tee shirts. This office also coordinates mural projects with neighborhood community centers and city schools. Often these mural projects utilize neighborhood youth to develop and create the murals. These projects have helped to combat graffiti; while lending to each park a unique identity and creating a sense of ownership among participants.

The Office of Graphics has been informed through the years by a number of individuals hired to help facilitate the community spirit that is part of the mission statement of the Syracuse Parks Department. An initial hire of Mark Topp in 1987 resulted in a number of painted murals for the Ida Benderson Senior Center. This grew into a Community Murals Program initiated by the Department's efforts to combat graffiti on parks community centers, and include interested parties from city neighborhoods. While unique unto itself this program has similarities to the notable efforts of Lily Yeh in Philadelphia.

These many and varied efforts were supervised at different times by Jerry Bates, John Bricker, Eva Zook, and Mark Topp. These individuals had backgrounds that were compatible with the requirements needed to coordinate with various participants, prepare, and execute the work. The work itself has changed over time, but a number of installations being executed in the mosaic medium have defined the best qualities of this program and possess the durability necessary in a municipal parks system.
