LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION at VALLEY POOL

You must have prior Lifeguard/First Aid & CPR cards. The classes will include Lifeguard Training, CPR and First Aid recertification. The pre-requisite swim test will be included on the first day of class. All dates of a session must be attended.

A. Clear the following dates on your calendar:

• Winter Session - Sunday, December 18th, 2011- 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM OR;
• Spring Session - Friday, May 25, 2012 - 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM AND Saturday, May 26, 2012- 9:00 am to 3:00 pm may include Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 9:30 AM for completion if necessary.

B. Sign up for Lifeguard Recertification

1. Complete a registration form - Click here to complete and print a registration form.
2. Make your first check payable to Commissioner of Finance -Syracuse Lifeguards pay- $25 & All Others pay - $75.
3. Make your second check payable to Commissioner of Finance and enter “RED CROSS” in the memo line  - Syracuse Parks & Recreation Lifeguards pay- $35 All Others pay - $70.  
4. Mail or hand-deliver your evaluation registration with Payments to: Syracuse Parks & Recreation, 412 Spencer Street, Syracuse, NY 13204 Attn: Lifeguard Recertification Registration.
5. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Enrollment is limited.

* Please note that the fees DO NOT include book or resuscitation masks. If you do not have them from your prior lifeguard classes, you will have to include a third check payable to American Red Cross for $50. Separate checks are a must.

If after you complete a Lifeguard Class and you want to work for a City Pool or continue working for a City Pool,you must complete C and D too.

C. Sign up for a Lifeguard Evaluation - (2011 Evaluation Dates available -approx. 2-3 hours depending on the # of participants) - This must be done annually to work for City Pools.

2. Mail or hand deliver your evaluation registration to: Syracuse Parks & Recreation, 412 Spencer Street, Syracuse, NY 13204 Attn: Lifeguard Evaluation Registration.
3. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. There is a limit of 20 candidates per test.

D. Pending the completion of all the necessary requirements a Lifeguard Employment Agreement will be mailed to you approximately the first week in June.

1. The agreement will cover the training requirements, rate of pay, proposed dates of employment, employment site and site conditions. You will be responsible for signing and returning the agreement to: Syracuse Parks & Recreation, 412 Spencer Street, Syracuse, NY 13204 Attn: Lifeguard Employment Agreement.
