    What is Adopt-a-Block?

The Adopt-a-Block program, in coordination with the Onondaga County Save the Rain Connect the Drops program, makes city beautification a yearlong, citywide effort. Individuals, organizations, schools, and businesses will volunteer to take responsibility for at least two city blocks, committing to a monthly cleanup of a designated area and “on the spot” litter pickup, as necessary. Connect your community by getting a group of your friends, neighbors, and coworkers together to join the effort. We want to feature your cleanup efforts and our neighborhoods. The City will also support your cleanups with email updates, educational workshops and more.

    The Building B-L-O-C-K to Adopt-a-Block

    • Build a Team of volunteers from your workplace, organization, and neighborhood.
    • Leaders register their group by filling out our online form here: Register Your Group. Groups commit to cleaning a minimum of two blocks for two years.
    • Organize a monthly cleanup of your adopted blocks, weather permitting. This means picking up litter “on the spot” when you see it.
    • Connect With Cityline (448-City) after your cleanup. Visit cityline.syrgov.net to do things like arrange trash pickup, or request other city services. Use Cityline as often as you need to improve the look and cleanliness of your blocks.
    • Let Us Know about your cleanups. We want to brag about our neighborhoods (more) so share your photos with us. Post them on social media with the hashtag #KeepingCuseClean and tag us @Syracuse1848.

    About the Program

The Clean-Up ‘Cuse Adopt-a-Block program will support Onondaga County’s efforts to keep litter out of our sewer systems and ultimately Onondaga Lake. County Executive Joanie Mahoney announced the Save the Rain Connect the Drops program as part of an initiative between the county and OCRRA, which promotes the reduction of litter in the county and specifically aims to block trash from entering the community’s waterways.
