    Save The Rain  Projects at our Parks

     

    The Office of Planning Development is responsible for developing and updating yearly, the Parks Department's 5-year Capital Improvement Program through various programs based on a priority/need. This office works with other departments to coordinate and oversee capital improvements construction projects throughout the parks system. This office is also responsible for the storage, updating, and archiving of project files, drawings, and site plans of park properties.

    PARKS ANNUAL CAPITAL PROGRAMS:

    Park & Playground Safety Improvements  
    This program provides improvements for new and existing parks, playgrounds and outdoor facilities. This program provides compliance with codes, accessibility and consumer product safety guidelines and responds to legal suits and claims. Program facilitates the receipt of outside sources of match funding.  Some improvement projects that have been completed in the last five years have included parks such as: Homer Wheaten, Loguen, Comfort Tyler, Sunnycrest, Meachem Schiller, Onondaga.

    Park Facility Improvements
    This program provides code compliance, facility accessibility and improvements to reduce liability, improve facility use and operations. The purpose of this program is to maintain facility investment and expand facility use city-wide. This program responds to the needs for improvements to existing facilities as well as providing new facilities based on demonstrated need. Program facilitates the receipt of outside sources of match funding. Some projects completed in the last five years include the following: Wilson Park elevator, Cecile Center elevator, Burnet Golf Clubhouse roof, Southwest Community Center gym and pool improvements, pool filters at Lincoln, McKinley, Thornden, Valley pool roof,  and fencing in various parks.

    Athletic Field Improvements          
    This program provides necessary improvements for new and existing ball fields and related features for all city parks and other recreational fields. This program supports safe play on outdoor field facilities by youth, adult and School District sport users. The purpose of this program is to improves ball field conditions and longevity and maintain initial investment in park field infrastructure.

    Monument Restoration Program    
    This program supports the city's ongoing efforts to restore monuments in parks to prevent further deterioration and loss of historic features. This includes professional cleaning services and provides matching funds for grant opportunities. Projects completed include the rehabilitation and/or cleaning of the following monuments: Redfield & Forman Memorial (Forman Park), Rock of the Marne (Billings Park), Spanish- American War Memorial (Billings Park) .

    Court Improvements          
    This program provides necessary improvements for new and existing court surfaces, posts, goals and related features for all City Park basketball, tennis, roller-skating and other recreational courts. This program improves court conditions and longevity, maintaining initial investment in park court infrastructure.
