The Learn to Skate Program offers a variety of instructions ranging from the beginner to the advanced skater.
The Learn to Skate Program is run by an outside agency that rents ice time at Sunnycrest and Meachem Ice Rinks. If you have any questions or need clarification, please call 413-0423 between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., Monday and Wednesdays, or click here to e-mail anytime.
JUVENILE LEARN TO SKATE PROGRAMS
PRESCHOOL:
A series of 6 or 7 lessons (depending on available ice), 20-minute lessons designed for 4 year olds.
Minimum of 3 children per class, maximum of 5 per class.
Available at Sunnycrest Rink - Fall & Winter Sessions - Monday AM, possibly Saturdays
Available at Meachem Rink - Fall & Winter Sessions - Tuesday AM, possibly Saturdays
BASIC GROUP LESSONS:
A series of 6 or 7 (depending on available ice), Saturday lessons, 25 minutes long, offered Fall and
Winter . Children are grouped according to LEVEL and then by age. Levels are Beginner,
Advanced Beginner, Novice 2, Novice 1, Novice Freestyle, Intermediate 2, Intermediate 1, Intermediate
Freestyle, Advanced 2, Advanced 1, Advanced Freestyle. The curriculum is based on the United States
Figure Skating Association "Skate With Us" program and the Ice Skating Institute of America "Basic Skills
Basic Skills Program". Ribbons are given once proficiency is gained at each level.
ADVANCED FREESTYLE MINI GROUPS:
A series of 6 or 7 lessons (depending on available ice), 25 minutes long, designed for the more advanced
LTS participant that has achieved the level of Advanced Freestyle. This level is small group instruction
with an emphasis on Basic Freestyle Skills. Minimum of 4, maximum of 5 per class.

GROUP ICE DANCING:
A series of 6 or 7 lessons (depending on available ice), 25 minutes long, designed to teach Basic Ice
Dances(Dutch Waltz, Canasta Tango, Rhythm Blues). Skating partners are not needed! Prerequisite
skills - Must have successfully completed Advanced 1. Minimum of 4 people per class, maximum of 5
per class.

SYNCHRONIZED SKATING (Precision Team):
Designed to teach basics of team skating and improve the skating skills of the participants. The LTS
Synchronized Skating Team will perform at the LTS Commissioners Cup Competition in March. Student
MUST BE AT LEAST ADVANCED LEVEL 1 to participate. Practice at Sunnycrest Rink, Sundays 5:45 p.m.
to 7:00 p.m.

ADULT LEARN TO SKATE PROGRAMS
THESE CLASSES HAVE BEEN DESINGED TO PROMOTE ICE SKATING IN THE ADULT COMMUNITY. THEY ARE LIMITED TO ADULTS ONLY.
BASIC GROUP LESSONS:
A series of 6 or 7 (depending on available ice), 25-minute lessons on a specified weekday with
a limited number of adults per class(8-12) at a specific skating level. Minimum of 6 people to
create a class.
Skill Level - Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced

PRE-ICE DANCING:
A series of 6 or 7 (depending on available ice), 25-minute lessons on a specified weekday with
a minimum of 5 people, maximum of 7 people, in a class. Consecutive Edges, Chasse,
Swing Rolls, Mohawks, 3-Turns, Progressives, and Introductory Timing Skills will be taught.
Prerequisite skills needed: Full glide each on left and right, forward and backward one foot
circles.

GROUP ICE DANCING:
A series of 6 or 7 (depending on available ice), 25-minute lessons designed to teach Basic Ice
Dances (Dutch Waltz, Canasta Tango, Rhythm Blues). Skating partners are not needed!
Prerequisite skills needed - Must have successfully completed Pre-Ice Dance Skills or Advanced
Level Group Lessons. Permission from previous instructor will be taken under consideration.
Minimum of 4 people per class.
