    Welcome to Syracuse Parks, Recreation and Youth Program’s Virtual Recreation Center!   

    While we may not be able to spend time  together with you in physical buildings or neighborhood parks during this difficult time, our hope is that we can stay connected virtually.  The links below can quickly connect you to great resources and programs from a variety of sources, including the Syracuse Parks Department, other local agencies, and beyond!  Check back often, as new activities may be added during the summer.

    Nutrition

    • Syracuse City School District Breakfast and Lunch Program CLICK HERE   

    • Kids Cafe "To Go"Afternoon Meals: Nutritious and delicious meals or snacks provided by the Food Bank of CNY will be available for youth 18 yrs and younger, at the following Recreation Centers. Meals are pre-packaged and refrigerated, and ready to heat up at home!  Ongoing!  Please wear a face covering.  A responsible adult must be present to register children for the meal program.  Staff will ask for name of child receiving meal, age, address, and the name/phone number of responsible adult. 
      Program begins Tuesday OCTOBER 13th.  ***Please note: There will be no Kids Cafe on the following days:  February 15.  Also, be sure to grab a Mobile Rec To Go craft project while supplies last!  (See below)

      • Kirk Park (Seals Community Center): Monday - Friday 4:30pm - 5:30pm

    • SYRATHON 2021 - Road Race Series with the Syracuse Parks Conservancy.  The popular race series returns in 2021 and again brings together 8 established road races, all in the City of Syracuse and spaced throughout the year. Syrathon's 8 race routes showcase Syracuse's historic park system as participants journey through a number of wonderful city neighborhoods.  Since 2009, the series has encouraged healthful physical activity year round, while promoting the sights and sounds of city life!  In 2020, the Series adapted to the challenges of Covid-19 and became a mostly virtual race series.  In 2021, while it may be too soon to know for certain which format (or date) some of the races may ultimately utilize, be assured that all race committees are excited to put on terrific events - in support of great causes - in whatever form they may take. Syrathon will take on an exciting hybrid format in 2021
      The Series Challenge: Become a Syrathoner!  Registered participants are challenged to accumulate at least 26.2 miles over the course of the Series. 
      After registering for the Series Challenge, then select and register for enough series races to meet your mileage goal.  And have fun!
      The Rewards:  1). All registered participants will receive a cool Syrathon t-shirt.  2). All who complete at least 26.2 race miles will earn the coveted Syrathon Medal.

    • Winter Photo Contest with Onondaga County Parks...  The Onondaga County Parks Winter Photo Contest is back...with exciting news for 2021!!

      The third annual event  runs January 28-February 28, 2021 and is open to all photographers, ages 5 & up. And NEW in 2021, Syracuse City Parks has joined the fun. That means photographers can submit photos taken in all open Onondaga County Parks AND Syracuse City Parks! The contest is FREE to enter with prizes awarded in five categories: Best Action, Best Portrait, Best Winter Scene, Most Artistic & Junior Photographer (ages 5-17.).  For more contest information and rules, visit the County Parks page  HERE

    • Virtual Teen Basketball Officiating Clinic... See the sport from a different angle: Teens, while there may not be much competitive basketball happening this Winter, here's a chance to stay in the game and learn about the sport from a new point of view...as a referee!  Local referees with experience at the  high school and college level (including the Final Four!) will join Parks staff each week for a virtual clinic that will cover such areas as the rules of the sport; game preparation; spacing and technique; how to talk with coaches/players; fitness; and more!  Take home the knowledge and skills that may even help prepare you to work as a referee down the road.  Was that a charge or a block?  Was that a travel?  Make the right call and register today.  Space is limited!

    • Mobile Rec To Go! Mobile Recreation returns this Winter with many of the same cool activities that you loved over the Summer, plus some new twists!  During the school year, Mobile Rec To Go craft bags will be available at 3 City Community Centers during the Grab and Go Meal program  on a weekly basis, with a new activity each week... So register online and pick up a new bag each week!  Registration and supplies are limited.
      Dates: January 25 - March 26, 2021
      Ages: 6 - 13
      Locations:  Kirk Park, Schiller Park, Westmoreland Park
      Limit: 25 per site

    • Syracuse Teen Leadership Program with Cornell Cooperative Extension’s 4-H :  Virtual Youth Learning Opportunity! Are you interested in learning leadership skills to help your community? Join the Syracuse Youth Leadership Training program by 4H. This workshop is 7 weeks long and will be meeting ONLINE. If you are age 11-18, a resident of the City of Syracuse, and interested in finding out how you already have the power to lead, sign up right now!  By completing the program, you will receive a youth leadership training certificate.

    • *Virtual* Family Health Walk and Talks with SUNY Upstate Pediatrics. FREE!  Now virtual, this family health and community empowerment program will continue to bring together families with local pediatricians for physical activity, important health information, and free access to local farm-fresh produce!  Traditionally, we would meet and walk in a local park.  Due to COVID, our “talks” will now be virtual, with 1-hour weekly summer webinars that may include guided exercise, Q&A regarding health care questions, and ongoing community needs assessments.  Parents are encouraged to walk with family on their own, and send weekly walking logs. Great incentives along the way.  Join today!

    • Monday Miles  Did you know there are more than a dozen accessible Monday Mile Walking Routes posted in parks and neighborhoods throughout the city?  And even more throughout the County! Monday Mile routesencourages household members to explore the City together, while getting great physical activity, one mile at a time.  Access the Monday Mile route maps from the link below, and start your “journey” today.  As an added incentive, if you complete at least 10 walks and send us a report, you can earn a great reward (while supplies last).  Please observe all health and safety related guidelines and observe social distancing.  Monday Mile and Healthy Mondays are programs of the Lerner Center of Public Health at Syracuse University!
