City Parks understands the importance of regular physical activity for improving the health and well being of all of us!  New guidelines presented by the federal government indicate that by accumulating 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity each week, we can substantially reduce the risk for a host of chronic diseases.  To help achieve that goal, the Parks Department offers the following opportunities...

Adult Fitness

FIT! Parks - Adult Outdoor Exercise Classes
FIT! Parks, a collaborative effort between the City Parks Department and Upstate Medical University, helps make fitness enjoyable and accessible to all City residents, by bringing the classes to neighborhood parks!  Exercise Leaders have backgrounds in Physical Therapy, Exercise Science, or both.  These outdoor classes are designed to build functional strength, and improve balance coordination, and overall fitness.  For adults of all ages! Aquatic Fitness

Syracuse Parks and Recreation Senior Centers are active each morning with a variety of classes and programs designed with health in mind. Check below for a schedule of free senior fitness classes.  Call the center for more information:

Kids Need 60 minutes a day!  After School Fit Kids Clubs will help youth achieve the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity in a fun, safe environment.  The program runs April-June at locations listed below.  Free!  Registration Required:

FIT! Parks – Free Health Seminars from HEALTHLINKS
Syracuse Parks and Recreation is excited to bring the popular HealthLinks series to City venues.  Upstate Medical University’s HealthLinks program includes regularly scheduled presentations on a variety of health topics, from arthritis, to exercise, to nutrition, to sports injury…led by local experts. GET MOVING CNY!
Get Moving again this summer with the “Get Moving CNY” program… from your County and City Parks Departments, and the Onondaga County Health Department!  Simply complete the recommended 30 minutes of “heart healthy” exercise each day (60 minutes for the kids!) for 30 straight days…by jogging, biking, dancing, swimming, gardening, etc…anything that’s fun and gets the heart rate up!  Then, tell us what you did on your “Get Moving Calendar”.  After 30 days, submit the form to us.  You’ll feel great, and be eligible for lots of great prizes, including a 30-day membership to the YMCA, t-shirts Wegmans certificates, and more!  Start your 30 days any time between June 1st and September 1st…and Get Moving toward a healthy lifestyle.  Download your Get Moving Calendar and info packet at:
