  • City Parks understands the importance of regular physical activity for improving the health and well being of all of us! Guidelines presented by the Centers for Disease Control and other experts indicate that by accumulating 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week, we can substantially reduce the risk for a host of chronic diseases. And remember...outdoor recreation in the Winter can also be great fun!  Embrace your Syracuse Winters and stay active even when snow blankets the ground... To help achieve that goal, City Parks make fitness enjoyable throughout the year and offers the following opportunities...


    Join our Team! Help to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle by leading fitness classes in our parks and recreation centers...classes may be offered for youth, seniors, and adults!     • ICE SKATING: Visit any of our three Ice Rinks, including the outdoor rink in Clinton Square, for a wonderful, family-friendly option for winter recreation. Check the links for directions, rates, and open skate times: Clinton Square, Sunnycrest Rink, Meachem Rink  
    • CROSS COUNTRY SKIING and SNOW SHOEING at Sunnycrest Park: Did you know that Sunnycrest Park is home to more than 2.5 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails? When enough snow blankets the park, the trails bring skiers along a loop that includes Sunnycrest golf course and some wooded areas. The Park is also terrific for exploration on Snow Shoes!  Great exercise for the entire family! When conditions permit, trails are maintained by the City of Syracuse Parks Department and begin at the Sunnycrest Park Ski Lodge (Hickok Ave entrance). Parking is available at the Ski Lodge and Ice Rink. Skiing is available December to March, snow conditions permitting. Snowshoeing is also encouraged.       FREE X-C Ski Clinics at Sunnycrest (for youth and adult):  Saturdays 11:30am - 1:00pm (conditions permitting). Group meets at the ski lodge.   ***Bonus clinic this SUNDAY as well 1/24/16)***

    Out-Of-School Time Fitness Program returns this Spring!  Kids Need 60 minutes a day! Out of School Time Fit Kids Programs will help youth achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity, and burn energy in a fun, safe, non-intimidating environment, with experienced leaders or certified fitness instructors. 6-week sessions scheduled for Spring, 2016 begin in March.     • FIT FOR THE NEXT 50! Syracuse Parks and Recreation Senior Centers are active each morning with a variety of classes and programs designed with health in mind. Check below for a schedule of free senior fitness classes. Call the center for more information: ZUMBA GOLD... at the Magnarelli Center. a lower-intensity Zumba class geared toward active seniors! Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30am-10:30am Fee: $35 per session. New 8-week sessions offered throughout the year.     • COOKING TOGETHER FOR FAMILY MEALS 2016...Free Cooking Classes for Families!  Join educators from Cornell Cooperative Extension for this exciting series of classes, held the 2nd Tuesday of each month through June, at the Magnarelli Community Center.  Come to one, or come to them all! Each time, you and your family members will learn great ways to prepare and enjoy healthful, inexpensive and delicious meals...together as a family!  Join us for a fun night out with the kids!  When registering,  include at least one or two adults, and up to 3 youth, ages 8-15, from the same household.     •  MONDAY MILES: Part of the MONDAY MILE and HEALTHY MONDAY Campaign! Two City Parks serve as start/end points for MONDAY MILE Routes , and four City Parks are marked with Monday Mile routes completely within the Park boundaries...Walk, run, or wheel, as the designated routes provide a convenient way to track your mileage! Visit a park today, and enjoy the benefits of outdoor fitness! Congratulations to everyone that completed the Passport Challenge in 2015!  Look for a new challenge in 2016!

    • SYRATHON ROAD RACE SERIES: Stay active through running! Tour City parks and neighborhoods on foot, and accumulate marathon mileage (26.2), by choosing from up to 7 road races and 3 Fun Runs held through the year in the City of Syracuse.     • AQUATIC EXERCISE CLASSES: Don't miss this low impact workout that is sure to improve your strength, flexibility and endurance.  Looking for a great low-impact exercise option? Maybe training for that triathalon? City Parks offers exclusive Lap/Training Swim hours Location:  FEE: $3 or 1 coupon per entry. Entire pool available for lap swimming only.To qualify for an exemption from any fees charged for pool use, proof of exemption must be provided upon EACH ENTRY to the pool. If proof of exemption is not provided, a fee will be charged or access to the pool denied. COUPON BOOK: $55 for 20 tickets or $125 for 50 tickets.     • WELLNESS WEDNESDAYS!: has concluded for 2015. Thanks for joining us... We will see you next Summer! Wellness Wednesdays, the free outdoor fitness program, returns this summer to Clinton Square and has expanded to include instructor-led classes morning, noon AND night! New for 2015: Group Hula Hoop! Certified instructors from Metro Fitness, based in downtown Syracuse, will offer the following classes each Wednesday from June 10 - July 29, 2015. No cost to join... simply drop in each Wednesday.
