  • City Parks understands the importance of regular physical activity for improving the health and well being of all of us! New guidelines presented by the federal government indicate that by accumulating 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week, we can substantially reduce the risk for a host of chronic diseases. To help achieve that goal, City Parks make fitness enjoyable throughout the year and offers the following opportunities...

    Out-Of-School Time Fitness Program returns this Fall Kids Need 60 minutes a day! Out of School Time Fit Kids Programs will help youth achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity, and burn energy in a fun, safe, non-intimidating environment, with certified fitness instructors. 6-week sessions scheduled for Fall, 2015, begin October 19th.     • FIT FOR THE NEXT 50! Syracuse Parks and Recreation Senior Centers are active each morning with a variety of classes and programs designed with health in mind. Check below for a schedule of free senior fitness classes. Call the center for more information: ZUMBA GOLD... at the Magnarelli Center. a lower-intensity Zumba class geared toward active seniors! Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30am-10:30am Fee: $35 per session. New 8-week sessions offered throughout the year.     • MONDAY MILES: Part of the MONDAY MILE and HEALTHY MONDAY Campaign! Two City Parks serve as start/end points for MONDAY MILE Routes , and four City Parks are marked with Monday Mile routes completely within the Park boundaries...Walk, run, or wheel, as the designated routes provide a convenient way to track your mileage! Visit a park today, and enjoy the benefits of outdoor fitness! Congratulations to everyone that completed the Passport Challenge in 2015!

      •  Thornden Park : Single Loop - Begin in Parking Area near Pool
      •  Upper Onondaga Park : Single Loop- Begin across from Parking area near tennis courts.
      •  Schiller Park neighborhood: Loop begins along sidewalk near tennis courts Barry Park neighborhood: Loop begins near fieldhouse
      •  Sunnycrest Park: Loop begins at Golf Clubhouse. 

    • SYRATHON ROAD RACE SERIES: Stay active through running! Tour City parks and neighborhoods on foot, and accumulate marathon mileage (26.2), by choosing from up to 7 road races and 3 Fun Runs held through the year in the City of Syracuse. Click HERE for more information on SYRATHON! Earn great rewards! SYRATHON Bonus Mile FUN RUNS - - Hey Syrathoners! Join Fleet Feet Syracuse and the Parks Department for 3 terrific opportunities to earn up to 9 more miles toward your Syrathon goal! Two of the three un-timed Fun Runs launch from the Inner Harbor Parking area off of Kirkpatrick Street. A third fun run will be held in Higher Onondaga Park in the City during a Parkway Saturday. Simply sign in with staff any time during the and be on your way! You choose how far you go! Creekwalk Bonus Runs: Dates: Tuesdays June 23rd, and August 25th Time: Check in between 5pm and 7pm Location: Adjacent to Inner Harbor Parking Area (Kirkpatrick St). Designated Fun Miles include the portion of the Creekwalk between the Inner Harbor and Onondaga Lake. Higher Onondaga Bonus Run: Date: Saturday July 25th, Time: Check in between 8am and 10am Location: Onondaga Park in the City's Strathmore neighborhood. Check In at the Fire Barn along the park loop. (500 Summit Ave). Park Loop will be closed to traffic.

    • AQUATIC EXERCISE CLASSES: Don't miss this low impact workout that is sure to improve your strength, flexibility and endurance.  Looking for a great low-impact exercise option? Maybe training for that triathalon? City Parks offers exclusive Lap/Training Swim hours Location:  FEE: $3 or 1 coupon per entry. Entire pool available for lap swimming only.To qualify for an exemption from any fees charged for pool use, proof of exemption must be provided upon EACH ENTRY to the pool. If proof of exemption is not provided, a fee will be charged or access to the pool denied. COUPON BOOK: $55 for 20 tickets or $125 for 50 tickets. Booklets are available for purchase at the Parks Main Office (412 Spencer Street, 13204).

    • FAMILY FITNESS AND WELLNESS NIGHT: December 3rd, 2015 @ the Magnarelli Center. 5:30pm - 7:30pm Fun fitness games, cooking demonstrations, sports clinics, refreshments, and more! FREE!

    • WELLNESS WEDNESDAYS!: has concluded for 2015. Thanks for joining us... We will see you next Summer! Wellness Wednesdays, the free outdoor fitness program, returns this summer to Clinton Square and has expanded to include instructor-led classes morning, noon AND night! New for 2015: Group Hula Hoop! Certified instructors from Metro Fitness, based in downtown Syracuse, will offer the following classes each Wednesday from June 10 - July 29, 2015. No cost to join... simply drop in each Wednesday.

    • ICE SKATING: Visit any of our three Ice Rinks, including the outdoor rink in Clinton Square, for a wonder, family-friendly option for winter recreation. Check the links below for directions, rates, and open skate times: Clinton Square, Sunnycrest Rink, Meachem Rink

    • CROSS COUNTRY SKIING at Sunnycrest Park: Did you know that Sunnycrest Park is home to more than 2.5 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails? When enough snow blankets the park, the trails bring skiers along a loop that includes Sunnycrest golf course and some wooded areas. Great exercise for the entire family! Trails are maintained by the City of Syracuse Parks Department. Trails begin at the Sunnycrest Ski Lodge (Hickok Ave entrance). Parking is available at the Ski Lodge and Ice Rink. Skiing is available December to March, snow conditions permitting. Snowshoeing is also encouraged.
