  • City Parks understands the importance of regular physical activity for improving the health and well being of all of us!  New guidelines presented by the federal government indicate that by accumulating 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physcial activity each week, we can substantially reduce the risk for a host of chronic diseases.  To help achieve that goal, the Parks Department offers the following opportunities...   

    FITNESS INSTRUCTORS-Join our Team!  Help to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle by leading fitness classes in our parks and recreation centers... classes may be offered for youth, seniors, and adults! Send a short e-mail indicating your interest in applying, along with your experience and certifications.

    SYRATHON CREEKWALK FUN RUNS - -See you next Summer!
    Hey Syrathoners!  Join Fleet Feet Syracuse and the Parks Department for 3 terrific opportunities to earn more miles toward your Syrathon goal!  Each of the three un-timed Fun Runs launch from the Inner Harbor Parking area off of Kirkpatrick Street.  Simply sign in with staff any time between 5:00pm and 7:00pm on designated Fun Run nights, and be on your way!    You choose how far you go!
    Dates: Tuesdays - 
    Time: Check in between 5pm and 7pm
    Location: Adjacent to Inner Harbor Parking Area (Kirkpatrick St).  Designated Fun Miles include the portion of the Creekwalk between the Inner Harbor and Onondaga Lake. 

    Don't miss this low impact workout that is sure to improve your strength, flexibility and endurance.

    AGE: No age restriction 
    FEE: $3 or 1 coupon per entry. Entire pool available for lap swimming only.To qualify for an exemption from any fees charged for pool use, proof of exemption must be provided upon  EACH ENTRY  to the pool. If proof of exemption is not provided, a fee will be charged or access to the pool denied.

    Senior Fitness

    Syracuse Parks and Recreation Senior Centers are active each morning with a variety of classes and programs designed with health in mind. Check below for a schedule of free senior fitness classes.  Call the center for more information:

     ZUMBA GOLD... at the Magnarelli Center. a lower-intensity Zumba class geared toward active seniors!
     Schedule:  Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30am-10:30am
     Fee:  $35 per session.  New 8-week sessions offered throughout the year. Check schedule below

    Youth Fitness

    FIT KIDS Program
     FREE After School Fitness Program returns this Spring
    Kids Need 60 minutes a day!  After School Fit Kids Program will help youth achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity, and burn energy in a fun, safe, non-intimidating environment, with certified fitness instructors.  6-week Sessions scheduled for Spring, 2015, beginning March 23rd.  Join any time!

    MONDAY MILE LOOPS ...part of the  MONDAY MILE  and MOVE IT MONDAY Campaign!

    Two City Parks serve as start/end points for  MONDAY MILE Routes , and three additional city parks are marked with dedicated recreation lanes within the Park boundaries...for walking, jogging, or bicycling. The Monday Mile Routes and lanes provide a convenient way to track your mileage! Visit a park today, and enjoy the benefits of outdoor fitness!

      WINTER RECREATION- Embrace Winter in Syracuse with a number of recreational opportunities that can help you and your family stay active, even as the snow flies!


    Visit any of our three Ice Rinks, including the outdoor rink in Clinton Square, for a wonder, family-friendly option for winter recreation.  Check the links below for directions, rates, and open skate times:

    Did you know that Sunnycrest Park is home to more than 2.5 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails?  When enough snow blankets the park, the trails bring skiers along a loop that includes Sunnycrest golf course and some wooded areas.  Great exercise for the entire family! Trails are maintained by the City of Syracuse Parks Department. Trails start at the Sunnycrest Ski Lodge (Hickok Ave entrance). Parking is available at the Ski Lodge and Ice Rink. Skiing is available December to March, snow conditions permitting. Snowshoeing is also encouraged!     ZUMBA in the Square --
    Free Exercise class at Clinton Square on Wednesdays during the lunch hour (WEATHER PERMITTING). High-energy music will keep the participants going during this half-hour program. The classes are offered FREE OF CHARGE as a collaborative effort of the City of Syracuse Parks Dept., Metro Fitness and THRIVE magazine. No registration necessary! Wednesdays, 12:15pm - 12:45pm.
