The primary purpose of the Greater Syracuse Property Development Corporation is to facilitate the return of vacant, abandoned, underutilized, and tax-delinquent properties to productive, tax-paying uses consistent with the Comprehensive Plans of the jurisdictions in which they are located. The positive redevelopment of these properties will increase surrounding property values, stabilize the tax base, and improve quality of life for neighborhood residents. Ensuring that properties are redeveloped in a responsible manner, by qualified developers, for purposes that benefit the surrounding community will work to reverse the decline of property values in blighted areas—often in the region’s urban core.
The Greater Syracuse Property Development Corporation is an independent, nonprofit corporation created by Intermunicipal Agreement between the City of Syracuse and the County of Onondaga. It is governed by a board of directors appointed by the City and the County.
