New York State Public Health Law requires that all puppies and kittens get their first rabies shot at three months of age. They also need to get a booster shot at one year old and then again every three years. Ferrets must get a shot every year. The Onondaga County Health Department provides information and periodic rabies shot clinics to Onondaga County residents. For more information, please visit http://www.ongov.net/health/ADP.html or call (315) 435-3165.
There are numerous animal rescue and advocacy resources throughout Central New York. The Animal Alliance of Greater Syracuse seeks to unite these resources in a public-private partnership in association with the City of Syracuse. The goal of the alliance is to create humane solutions leading toward the day when there are no more homeless pets.
